PHEW, we are back from February 2017 NYFW + boy was it a whirlwind! While I absolutely loved the hustle + bustle of NYFW + NYC… the excitement of going to shows + seeing all the best fashions… I can honestly say that I am SO glad to be home + back to LA LA Land! New York is oh so incredible, but that weather will kill ya when you are trying to walk in pretty stilettos to every show!
I would love to start by apologizing to you loves for being a bit absent this last 2 weeks! With Fashion week, I had to put everything on hold as I confirmed shows daily, moved around our schedule, planned out outfits, + did regular work things! Sometimes there are just not enough hours in the day, am I right?
All that being said, after coming back from NY I have a new found appreciation for LA + I want to take a moment to share my LOVE for LA LA Land + all that has been going on in this city. Los Angeles is a city where I can so evidently see God moving through the identity of its people. He is working to shift our hearts to place our identity in HIM when otherwise we are so conflicted as people in the entertainment capital of the world. I am honored to be in a city where there are dozens of churches + external communities rising up to reclaim the true IDENTITY that is made for us IN Christ. An identity that supersedes all the fame. That outlasts all the momentary excitement of popularity. An identity that provides us with total, complete, TRUE, authentic love. Our identity in Christ Jesus.
As I sit here + type this I am actually in such a place of expectancy + EXCITEMENT as I can clearly see God working + moving through the fashion + entertainment industries right before my eyes. I actually recently became a part of an amazing movement of faith based professionals that come together once a month. This group is called Marketplace LA + it was created to form a space for intentional discussion about wisdom in the workplace through showcasing market leaders as well as grooming industry leaders + forming community in + around different professions. It has been such an incredible journey to see how God has taken Marketplace LA + grown it even in the last few months…. I can’t wait to share more!
Through Marketplace LA, myself + a group of other amazing individuals [shoutout to Ali Motroni for being our fierce leader!] have recognized that God has called us in Los Angeles to rise up a community of incredible business professionals + encourage them in their identity in Christ so that they can shine their light + equip themselves in their workplaces. Talk about being empowered by your identity in Christ every day whilst being combatted by the norms of our broken world AT work! I cannot wait too see how God is going to use this dynamic community. Side note: if you want to be a part of the next Marketplace LA click here.
All of this to say lovelies, Los Angeles can be a place of so much faux-ness that we often do not know how to decipher the real from the fake. The true from the false…especially through our professions. So often we Angelenos get caught up in how we can please others, + often we let others steal our joy by simply allowing their rejection to define us [more on this in the next blog post]. But what is SO beautiful is that I can clearly see an army of individuals rising up throughout Los Angeles to spread light, provide support, + lift one another up to understand our true identity as it was made to be in Christ Jesus.
I am so excited for what God is doing in LA. As I was writing this post, the below scriptures really touched me + in many ways sum up how we are secure, safe, loved, + saved by our Almighty King!
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand] Pslam 91:1
“The lord your God is in your midst, a might one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing” Zephaniah 3:17
If you are a Christian, my plea for you is to come alongside me + pray for the city of Los Angeles. Pray for the broken hearted. The deeply lost + confused. The lonely + the unpopular. The rejected + forgotten. Pray that they will know Christs love for them. That they will see their beautiful, spotless, shining identity in Christ. That they will know they do not have to work to have to be loved + accepted, because they have been since before they were born + will always be covered with unending love.
